4 tips for a successful student recital
Many teachers are just about to organize their student recitals before the holiday break. Here are the four tips for organizing a successful event:
👉 Prepare students thoroughly 🤩
Students need to learn the piece(s) that they are going to perform very thoroughly. It is better for them to perform a piece they know very well versus one that they just recently learned a week or two before. Here is my blog post about preparing for performance anxiety.
👉 Create and proofread your recital program 🔍
Using Canva can be an easy way to create a recital program. If you want to save time, you can use my templates. Do take the time to proofread as spelling mistakes in students' names are often the most frequent errors. Double check piece names and composers as well.
👉 Book a venue with lots of audience seating 🪑
A recital is an opportunity for students to showcase their musical abilities to their friends, family, and peers. Having plenty of audience space will allow for students to invite many guests.
👉 Create a reason for students to stay until the end 🎁
I recommend that you keep a student recital under an hour in length as it can get boring for some audience members. Having a potluck reception afterwards has been my most effective idea. Maybe you have a draw for a prize at the end too.
That’s all for now!
All the best,
Sarah
