Mock Exams
Mock exams are available for students preparing for RCM or Conservatory Canada practical examinations, and can be completed in person at my Ottawa studio or online. These sessions are included as part of regular instruction for my own students and are also available by booking for students studying with other teachers. Each mock exam closely simulates real exam conditions and includes detailed verbal and written feedback to help students build confidence, refine their repertoire, and understand exam expectations.

Mock exams are one of the most effective ways for students to feel prepared and confident on exam day. Many students experience performance anxiety or uncertainty around timing, marking criteria, or exam structure. Whether completed in person in Ottawa or online, a mock exam provides a supportive, realistic setting in which students can gain valuable experience and make meaningful improvements before their official assessment. For best results, mock exams are recommended at least two weeks prior to the scheduled exam date.
Why Take a Mock Exam?
-
Simulate the Real Exam Experience – students will go through the full exam process, including scales, sight-reading, ear training, repertoire, and etudes, just as they would in the actual exam. This helps reduce anxiety and familiarizes them with the format.

-
Receive Constructive, Personalized Feedback – After their mock exam, they’ll get detailed feedback on their strengths and areas for improvement. This allows them to refine their performance and address any last-minute concerns before the real exam.

-
Improve Confidence – Performing under exam conditions can be nerve-wracking. A mock exam gives students the chance to practice playing in a formal setting, so they can feel more relaxed and self-assured on the actual exam day.

-
Identify Areas for Improvement – A mock exam can highlight specific areas that need more attention, whether it’s refining technique, improving musical expression, or working on fluency in sight-reading. This ensures students to make the most of their final preparation time.
